Three days after hiring their new head coach, the New York Jets have found their new general manager.

The Jets have agreed to terms with Darren Mougey to become the team’s new GM, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Saturday, per sources.

New York has since announced the hiring.

“Darren is a trusted NFL executive who has experience working with an impressive collection of football leaders,” Jets chairman Woody Johnson said in a statement released by the team. “He is a proven talent evaluator who impressed us with his vision for this team. His partnership with coach (Aaron) Glenn will revitalize this organization. I am proud of the thorough search we undertook and that it led us to the two best individuals to lead our football team going forward.”

Mougey has spent the past 13 years in Denver, first serving as a scout for the Broncos before becoming an executive and most recently getting promoted to assistant GM. His hiring comes after the Jets announced Glenn as their new head coach earlier this week.

While the Jets’ new GM-HC duo has ties to Broncos head coach Sean Payton, the pairing has never worked together.

Mougey takes over a Jets roster that was molded by Joe Douglas, who was fired midway through a tumultuous 2024 campaign that also saw the midseason dismissal of head coach Robert Saleh. New York held a 30-64 record and didn’t make the playoffs during Douglas’ five-plus season tenure. Phil Savage served as the interim GM.

“It is one of the great honors and privileges of my life to serve as the general manager of the New York Jets,” Mougey said. “I want to thank Mr. Johnson for this responsibility, one I do not take lightly. I could not be more excited to work alongside coach Glenn to build a championship team that will make Jets fans proud.”
