It didn’t take long for Jeff Ulbrich to land another gig.
The Atlanta Falcons are hiring Ulbrich as their new defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per sources informed of the situation. The team announced the hire shortly after the report.
The former New York Jets interim head coach has deep connections to Atlanta and current head coach Raheem Morris. Ulbrich worked for the Falcons from 2015 to 2020, starting as linebackers coach. He was promoted to ATL’s DC in the middle of the 2020 season under then-interim head coach Morris.
The duo now unites again.
Atlanta fired defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake following an 8-9 season. The Falcons defense allowed 24.9 points per game and 345.2 yards per tilt, finishing 23rd in the NFL in both categories.
Ulbrich joined Robert Saleh in New York in 2021, working as DC under the defensive-minded head coach. Saleh was fired this past season and Gang Green went 3-9 after Ulbrich took over as interim head coach. He returns to Atlanta under another defensive head coach who is looking to improve a unit that has underperformed for years.
Ulbrich also interviewed for the Jets’ full-time head-coaching gig.
