The 2024 title has a bit of a more impressive note to it as the Chiefs won a division that houses Chargers and Denver Broncos teams that are also currently in playoff position.
The Chiefs also improved to 10-0 on the season in one-possession games, having claimed all but two of their victories in nail-biting fashion.
“We keep the ratings, baby. Keep the ratings,” defensive lineman Chris Jones said. “Getting prepared for later on in the playoffs when every game is going to be tight. Every game is going to be similar atmosphere to this. Very tight, very close. Maybe come down to a field goal to win the game and we know how to close.”
Having been the first NFL team this year to lock up a playoff spot a week earlier with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chiefs have now sewn up their division and, at 12-1, taken a step closer to wrapping up the AFC’s top seed and the first-round bye that goes with it.
Winners of back-to-back Super Bowls, Kansas City’s quest for an unprecedented three-peat continues on the best path toward completing that historic mission.
The Chiefs have won three straight games, nine consecutive AFC West titles, are tops in their conference and have four games remaining before they officially begin the defense of their Super Bowl crowns.
“We won the division, it’s the first step,” Mahomes said after the game on NBC. “We’ve got a lot more goals that we want to go for.”
