“I could coach tomorrow,” Carroll said back in August. “I’m physically in the best shape I’ve been in a long time. I’m ready to do all the activities I’m doing and feeling really good about it. I could, but I’m not desiring it at this point.”
The one-time Super Bowl winner would bring a culture of stability to an organization in desperate need of it after firing Matt Eberflus in November after a string of notable losses.
Carroll went 137-89-1 in 14 seasons with the Seahawks and made the postseason 10 times, including two trips to the Super Bowl.
Carroll is not the only former Super Bowl head coach the Bears have expressed interest in.
Chicago previously requested to interview Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, whose own status in Dallas remains murky, but Dallas denied the Bears’ request as the Cowboys have an exclusive negotiating with McCarthy until Jan. 14.
